Magnet fishing UK And EuropeTL;DR --> Best magnet here, best rope here and best hook here
When I started this site, my primary target was the US. Since then I have figured out that there are a quite large magnet fishing UK community and also some magnet fishers in Europe, myself including. Therefore, I have made this page specifically to the magnet fishing UK community. Another reason for this is because my main links for magnets, ropes, and accessories are linking to Amazon.com. This is not very convenient for you guys who wants to buy a magnet for magnet fishing in the UK. If you have any suggestions for the page, feel free to contact me through the contact page in the menu. On this page, you will find information about which magnets are the best to buy, which rope is the strongest and best for magnet fishing and lastly, which accessories which are nice to have, but not need to have. For each section below I will tell what I think is important to evaluate the current item on, what I have myself and lastly what I recommend you guys to buy Where do I buy magnets in the uK for magnet fishing? In my opinion, the stronger the magnet, the better. This is because it is only able to lift the listed amount when it is completely flat on the surface of the object. Many times this have resulted in me losing a lot of objects which were a lot lighter than the 130 kgs, which is the listed strength of my magnets, an example of this is the many bikes we have caught, they are never caught becuase the magnet lifts it with its magnetic strength, but because the magnet is stuck in the tyre or somewere else on the bike. Another paramter for the magnets which you should consider is the diameter of the magnet. I don't have that much experience with magnet fishing with large diameter magnets, but if you have tried both types, please let me know how it affects the magnet fishing finds. I would say, large magnet = large search area, so maybe I should buy the 125 mm diameter magnet soon :D
What magnets do I have myself?
Where do i buy rope for magnet fishing in the UK?There is much talk about what is the best rope for magnet fishing. In the sub-Reddit Magnet fishing, some people are writing posts with big warnings about using Paracord and that the one and only rope for magnet fishing is climbing or sailing rope. One of the reasons they warn about Paracord is, that it is weakened when you make knots with it. But the thing is, all rope is weakened by knots, so that should not be the reason why you decide not to buy the Paracord.
So when you want to buy rope for magnet fishing, you should consider something which is long enough, but also not too long. I go magnet fishing in shallow lakes and have found that 15 meters of rope is more than enough, but for you magnet fishing UK guys, if your lakes are very deep, you should consider longer rope. The thickness of the rope, Paracord is very thin, light and dries fast, climbing rope is a bit thicker, more heavy, especially when wet, and takes longer time to dry. I don't use any climbing rope myself because I find it too heavy and expensive compared to Paracord. What rope do I use myself?
Below, I have gathered my findings for rope on Amazon, hopefully you will like what I found. See how to make the best knots for magnet fishing here! |

Magnet fishing accessories
When you have bought the magnets and the rope, you have the basics to go magnet fishing. But sometimes it is nice to have more than just the basics, and therefore I have made this subsection for you with suggestions for what else is nice to have when you go exploring magnet fishing in the UK.
Gloves for magnet fishing
The next thing I really recommend is some heavy duty gloves. The things you will catch are rusty and the mud they have been lying in is really smelly. Also some of the things may have sharp edges, and therefore, I recommend the following glove for magnet fishing since it has a thick rubber surface on the inside of the glove.

A Gravity Hook
On almost every magnet fishing trip we have had a heavy object at the end of our magnets, but even though we used 3 or 4 magnets, we just couldn't get the magnets to stay on the object, I therefore recommend buying this little hook to assist you with your lifting when the magnets fall of.
A Knife for fishing line cutting and opening up your magnet fishing finds
When you go magnet fishing at places where people also go normal fishing, you can be almost sure your magnet is going to be caught in some fishing line once in a while. Therefore, it is always nice to bring a knife to cut the fishing line and maybe open the objects which you find.

Sometimes, the magnet fishing trips have a longer duration than first expected. This could result in the the sun going down, and you trying to magnet fish in the dark. Therefore i recommend you to buy the following headlamp for magnet fishing. It is waterproof, and rechargeable.
