Where are the best places to magnet fish?

You have the magnet, you have the rope (if not, look here), the only thing you need is to find the best places to go magnet fishing in your area. Luckily, when you want to go magnet fishing the only thing you need is water, and I will almost guarantee that you will find something.
But if you want to catch something else than just beer caps and nails, some places is better for magnet fishing than others.
Through many trips of magnet fishing, I have a pretty good feeling if a place is good or bad. To see what I look for, look right below.

The criteria for a good place to go magnet fishing

So the things I look for when I want to find a new good place to go magnet fishing, is the following:
  • It has to be a place where a lot of people comes by, many people, many dropped things, many magnet fishing finds.
  • Is has to be easily accessible preferably with a road near by so people with bad intentions easily can drive close by with something big and drop it in the water for us to find it.
  • There has to be +3 feet / 1 meter deep, otherwise, people would be able the grab the things themselves. If the water is really clear I would say at least +6 feet / 2 meters deep.
  • If there is a small bridge out into the water, this is a good thing.
  • If it is a place with lots of current, people might not be able to find the things they drop because it goes away with the current.

The best places I have found to go magnet fishing

Where to magnet fish
This is a picture taken from Google Maps.
This is the lake I live near by so this lake is often my first choice when I am going out to catch some metal.
As you can see in the picture, I have made some white circles near some small bridges, with boats next to them.
The good thing about these bridges is that when people go sailing they sometimes drops something in the water when they are jumping in their boats or when they are doing repairs on the boat, therefore this is one of the best places to magnet fish and it is a good idea to throw the magnet in between the boats and drag it on the bottom until it is at the front of the boat.

Since it is allowed to fish in these lakes, a lot of people are fishing from these bridges. Therefore, when we go on magnet fishing trips here we find fishing tackle and tools all the time.

Keep reading to see the best magnet fishing finds i have made at the bridges in the picture above!

My best magnet fishing finds at bridge number 1

Bridge number 1 has never really yielded any awesome magnet fishing finds the times we have been magnet fishing there. We have gotten some fishing tackle and the pocket knife which can be seen on the picture.

I believe the reason why we haven't found anything exciting at bridge number 1 is because the water is really shallow at this bridge, like around 2 feet / 60 cm deep. So if a person would accidentally drop something valuable, it is pretty easy to get it back.

My Best Magnet Fishing Finds At Bridge Number 2

Bridge number 2 has, just as bridge number 1, some really shallow water underneath it. Therefore, the things we have caught at this bridge are really boring. They include fishing tackle, some bullets (No pictures, sorry), fishing tackle, cutlery like spoons, forks and knifes and as you can see in the picture an old bike lock with push/pull combination lock on it.

My Best Magnet Fishing Finds At Bridge Number 3

Even though bridge number 3 is right next to bridge number 1 and 2, it is just soooo much better than the first two. The only reason I can think of for this, is because the water is much deeper below this bridge, at least 6-9 feet / 2-3 meters. Therefore, when people accidentally drops something in the water it is much harder to retrieve it. Furthermore, with the water being so deep and also very brownish (low visibility) it is also the perfect place for people who wants to get rid of stolen objects as you will see in the pictures.

Since we have gotten so many fantastic magnet fishing finds at this bridge, I had to limit the amount of pictures. For more exciting pictures, see my best magnet fishing finds here.

The magnet fishing finds at this bridge includes many money boxes (two of the in the pictures), many tools and knifes, fishing tackle, bike parts, moped parts, old cans and a lot of other stuff.

As you can see in the third picture, I also caught a silver spoon which from new costs around $ 200.00. The reason why I was able to catch the spoon is because the other end than the one being shown in the picture, were made by stainless steel.

As you can see in the pictures, I have also caught two machine gun bullets. The reason why I was able to catch these, is because they have a steel core which is magnetic. Unfortunately, this is used to pierce armors, so I'm just glad they weren't used.

In the last picture you can see a pressurized bottle containing oxygen. This was one of the heavier catches and it makes one wonder what it was doing at the bottom of the lake.

So as you can see from the first three bridges, it is very important to tests all the bridges and magnet fishing places in your area, since you never know which of them are having the best magnet fishing finds.

My best magnet fishing finds at bridge number 4

The first couple of times we went magnet fishing at bridge number 4 we didn't find anything really interesting but after a two year break from the bridge we tried to throw in the magnets near the bridge, and this time we got "lucky". Among the things we caught were two money boxes, a hammer, a large drill, some beer caps and some fishing tackle.

In the picture you can see the two money boxes we caught.

My Best Magnet Fishing Finds at Bridge Number 5

Bridge number 4 have not really been an awesome treasure quest when we have been magnet fishing from it.

The things we have caught from the bridge includes more beer caps, some nails, fishing tackle and the large kitchen knife you can see in the picture.

Conclusion

What I am basically trying to tell you guys is that you can never know where you will find your future best magnet fishing find. It can be in places where a lot of people comes by, but it could also be in a quiet place where someone tried to get rid of something.  So be curious and throw your magnet into the water wherever you go, because you never know what you might find. Just remember to take the depth of the water into account.
